Chaturmukha Basadi is a Jain Temple Situated in a dense forest of Gersoppa in honavar taluk of Uttara Kannada district.
The temple is situated near the banks of Sharavati river . The temple is believed to have been built in the 12th century AD and is dedicated to the Jain Tirthankaras.

The Chaturmukha Basadi temple is known for astonishing architecture and beautiful carvings.
The temple is built in south Indian architectural style . It has four entrance which leads to four different shrine dedicated to jain Tirthankaras.
The temple also has several other smaller shrines and sculptures of Jain Deities and Saints.We can find several other smaller carvings and structures which has historical importance
And also we can see an inscription which provides the history of the temple and Saluva Dynasty of the Vijayanagara empire.
The temple is now a protected monument under Archeological survey of India.
Restoration works have been carried out to preserve the temple in its original form.
History:
The territory of Gersoppa was under the ruling of Saluva dynasty of the Vijayanagara empire .It is said that 1084 temples existed in the region but where destroyed and presently only six remaining. There is an inscription dated from the 16th century that mentions Rani Chennabhairadevi’s (popularly called the “Pepper Queen”). The chaturmukha basadi temple was constructed in 1562 during the rule Of Chennabhairadevi.
